Hadassah Chicago Chapter

 EXPERIENCE LEADERSHIP
Leadership Academy of Chicago Hadassah (LACH) began as an idea to educate and develop the leadership skills of Jewish women who have the potential of becoming great Jewish leaders.

Now a reality, the women enrolled within this program spend two years in facilitator-guided, peer-led monthly sessions. After which, they use the skills they have acquired to promote the image and role of Jewish women in their communities as well as pass along educational elements to
                             empower others.

EXPERIENCE COMMUNITY
Hadassah Chicago’s 6,500 members celebrated Israel’s 60th Anniversary by bringing "Dancing the Dream" to our city. This collaborative performance included disadvantaged youngsters from Hadassah Neurim Youth Village in Israel.

Bringing the Chicago community together for this multicultural celebration enabled the teens and their peers to identify a dream and work towards it, as well as raised over $75,000 for Neurim Youth Village and the extraordinary works of Hadassah.

Hadassah Chicago’s diverse groups are defined by age, geographic area, and interests, making sure all our members belong to a group that’s right for them.

EXPERIENCE HEALING
Each year, Hadassah Chicago Chapter raises in excess of $2,000,000 to support Hadassah’s projects in Israel and the United States. One of these projects is Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO).

This world-renowned medical complex in Jerusalem is comprised of Hadassah medical Center at Ein Kerem, a state-of-the-art medical care and research facility, and Hadassah Hospital at Mount Scoupus, an innovative treatment facility, together caring for over 700,000 patients yearly regardless of race, religion or nationality.

EXPERIENCE SOCIAL ACTION
Hadassah Chicago Chapter is committed to deepening Jewish commitment on protecting the Earth and all of its inhabitants. Our partnership with the Jewish National Fund has helped the environment in Israel by maintaining reservoirs and aquifiers, planting trees, and teaching Jewish youth about protecting the land of their heritage.

In Chicago, members have added their voices to Hadassah’s nationwide advocacy efforts by educating our local communities about environmental issues through discussing the Jewish law of bal tashhit (a prohibition against needlessly destroying or wasting resources), and participating in local environmental projects.

EXPERIENCE EMPOWERMENT
For the last seven years, Hadassah Chicago Chapter has run Check It Out, an educational program for high school and college students that emphasizes the importance of caring for your body and develops an awareness of self-examination as a means of early detection of breast and testicular cancer.

In addition, Hadassah Chicago Chapter informs and urges its 6,500 members to advocate legislation on behalf of women’s health issues. Some of these issues include reproductive choice, breast cancer, AIDS education and prevention, cervical cancer and HPV, and violence against women and children.
